Academic ranking of world universities released: Tsinghua Peking University first entered the top 100 in the world.

  In the 2016 academic ranking of world universities released on August 15th, there are 41 universities in China, among which Tsinghua University and Peking University are among the top 100 universities in the world for the first time this year, and 9 universities including China Geo University (Wuhan) and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China are among the top 500 universities in the world for the first time.

  According to The Paper (www.thepaper.cn), academic ranking of world universities (ShanghaiRanking’ S academic ranking of world universities (ARWU) is the first comprehensive global university ranking in the world. It was first published by the World-class University Research Center of the Institute of Higher Education of Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2003, and it is the first comprehensive global university ranking in the world. Since 2009, ARWU has been released by Shanghai Soft Science Education Information Consulting Co., Ltd.

  Academic ranking of world universities of Soft Science adopts internationally comparable objective indicators and third-party data, including the number of alumni and teachers who won the Nobel Prize and Fields Prize, the number of highly cited scientists, the number of papers published in Nature and Science, the number of papers included in Science Citation Index (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), and the average academic performance of teachers.

  In this year’s ranking, Harvard University is still firmly in the top spot, ranking first in the world for 14 consecutive years; Stanford University, second only to Harvard University, continues to rank second in the world. The University of California, Berkeley, surpassed MIT and ranked third in the world. Cambridge University rose from fifth place to fourth place; Oxford University jumped from 10th place last year to 7th place.

  The University of Tokyo in Japan regained the 20th place in the world this year, making it the only university in Asia that ranks among the top 20 in the world.

  Tsinghua University and Peking University took the lead in making a historic breakthrough and advanced into the top 100 in the world, ranking 58th and 71st respectively. Compared with last year, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University and China University of Science and Technology also made significant progress, ranking 101st-150th in the world. Harbin Institute of Technology and Xi ‘an Jiaotong University are among the top 200 universities in the world for the first time, and Sun Yat-sen University is the only mainland university in China outside C9.

  In 2016, there were 41 mainland universities in China, which were among the top 500 universities in academic ranking of world universities, an increase of 9 compared with last year. China Geo University (Wuhan) and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China ranked among the 301st-400th in the world for the first time. Seven universities, namely China Ocean University, Hunan University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Northeast Normal University, Wuhan University of Technology, Donghua University and beijing university of chemical technology, all ranked among the top 500 in the world for the first time.

  Among the universities in China, Hong Kong University ranks 101st-150th in the world, while Taiwan Province University and Taiwan Province "China University of Medicine" rank 151st-200th in the world. Hong Kong Baptist University and Kaohsiung Medical University entered the world’s top 500 for the first time this year.
