Most notably, the second Pingyao Film Festival increased the amount of prize money, and the best film will receive 20,000 US dollars, half of which will be given to the director and the other half to encourage China publishers. Marco Müller said that the film selection level will be higher than last year, and revealed that the film list will be released in mid-September.


Xú Zhēng didn’t read the whole script before talking about filming.


Xú Zhēng, one of the actors in Children of the Rivers and Lakes, plays the second man in Zhao Tao in the Three Gorges part of the film. When talking about appearing in this play, he said, "The director is just stimulating me. He doesn’t tell me who other people are playing, what their role is, or the whole story. He just said that you should behave well."


When asked about his feelings during filming, Xú Zhēng said, "I think it is particularly interesting. The first scene stood on the platform with Mr. Zhao Tao. When I saw the director, I had a feeling of crossing the times, like returning to Jia Zhangke’s previous works. It was wonderful."
